Leaders in New Canaan voted Tuesday to raise the price of parking permits in nearly every town commuter lot.

The Board of Selectmen decided on the new fee structure at Town Hall. At least one lot will see a $135 increase, others only a $15 spike. There were also changes made to help alleviate traffic congestion on New Canaan's main drag.

The changes are a one-year experiment that look to keep some of the town's lots from being underutilized. The Department of Transportation had threatened to take the underutilized lots from the town if they were not better managed.
