The principal of a Bridgeport high school says she is upset with the way police handled a shooting that took place Tuesday.

Police say shots were fired on Coleman Street at around 2 p.m. following an argument. According to police, the driver of a Volkswagen was shot in the stomach as he tried to drive away. Authorities say a passenger in the car was hit in the back as he tried to flee on foot.

The incident took place approximately a block away from where students at Kolbe Cathedral High School were being dismissed.

"After becoming aware of what was happening a block away from the school, I've made several phone calls [to police] and certainly [to] my superintendent, Dr. Gaines, to communicate our disappointment that we had not been notified," says Jo-anne Jakab, the school's principal.

Jakab says police reassured her the school was in no danger, but she says she would have liked to have been notified.
