Project Homeless Connect held its 12th annual resource day on Wednesday.
The organization works to connect people in the Bridgeport community who are homeless or at risk for homelessness.
The first 300 people through the door Wednesday morning received a free book bag with personal care items like T-shirts and toothbrushes.
The organization also had resources to help residents find jobs, get help with finding a home and get essential items for their day-to-day lives. It offered free medical screenings, and volunteers cooked more than 200 pounds of chili and gave out other food and water for those in attendance.
The event was previously held at Bridgeport University but was moved to the St. Mary Church in an effort to help more people. The volunteers spent a whole year planning the day.
Anyone looking for additional information on resources can call 211.
