Owning a classic car in Connecticut could soon mean a much higher tax bill.
In Connecticut, a car only has to be 20 years old, as new as 1995, to qualify for "classic" license plates. Lawmakers want to raise the minimum age to 25 years.
Every three years, drivers would also have to prove their cars are true collector items.
Critics of the current system say people are abusing the system and getting special tax breaks for cars that are not truly classics.
If this proposal passes, as it stands now, people with cars newer than 25 years old who already have these plates, would be able to keep them.
