Redding police take part in 'No Shave November'
You may soon notice a bit more hair on the faces of the men in your life.
It's almost time to begin No Shave November, an annual campaign to increase cancer awareness. According to NoShave.org, the movement is devoted to growing cancer awareness and raising funds to support cancer prevention, research and education.
Police in Redding have already put down the shaving cream and razor. They say it is the department's first time participating in the nationwide campaign.
Chief Doug Fuchs tells News 12 that the department is pushing some of its grooming rules aside so that officers can help the community in a fun way. He says half of his department is ditching the razor to help fight cancer.
Fuchs says the fundraiser strikes close to home this year.
"We do have an officer who is going through some of these challenges with their own child and I think besides all the good it does for the community, it also shows our support for her and her family," Fuchs says.
He says he can't imagine what it's like to watch a loved one suffer but stands in solidarity with those who do.
They have raised money $1,600 so far, which will be donated to organizations such as St. Jude's Research Hospital.
Organizers from NoShave.org say you can join in by not shaving for 30 days and donating your hair maintenance expenses.
