Residents complain of foul odor coming from train
Residents living in Port Morris say an odor that has been lingering recently is so bad that they can't leave their homes without smelling it.
They say the odor has been wafting along Southern Boulevard for the last few weeks.
"It smells like death," says resident Jessenia Torres. "It smells like decaying bodies. It's just horrible."
Inspectors from the Department of Environmental Protection were dispatched to the neighborhood last Friday. According to the borough president's office, they "traced the smell to a train that was carrying garbage and just sitting in the sun."
The DEP did not confirm whether the train has been moved.
