Residents: Insurance won't cover water main damage
Stamford residents hit hard by a water main break earlier in the week received word Wednesday that insurance might not cover damages.
A 100-year-old water main broke near High Ridge Road Monday, sending gallons of water onto the streets and into the basements of some homes.
Mildred Galasso, 83, said the water company is fixing her driveway and landscaping the lawn after she experienced flooding. However, she said her insurance company told her the break was an act of God, so the company is not responsible for covering damages. She said she also has to contend with a ceiling she fears will collapse.
Residents affected by the break gathered at the First United Methodist Church Wednesday to discuss what to do next. Some said they would get lawyers if they have to.
