(09/18/06) NORWALK ? Administrators locked down Ponus Ridge Middle School in Norwalk Monday after an individual, who may have been armed, was spotted on the school?s roof.

One father says his daughter witnessed a person on the roof with weapons. According to a letter sent home by the school, a custodian also saw the individual. Police arrived on the scene shortly after the reports, but could not find the intruder. The school was sent into lockdown mode and an officer stayed on the premises for the rest of the day.

Police say they don?t know for sure if the person on the roof was armed. According to some parents, the incident is especially frightening in light of incidents like the Columbine school shooting. One girl?s father says the incident has frightened his daughter to the point where she doesn?t want to return to school.
