It?s the last semester for students at Sacred Heart Academy in Stamford as the all-girls Catholic high school is closing its doors this June after 83 years.
Both faculty and parents found out about the closing Thursday and students were formally told Friday morning. The Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery, which owns the school, says it has watched the enrollment dwindle over the last decade. The group says it has tried everything to recruit more students, but claim this type of school is not valued enough by teenagers anymore.
So far, the sisters say they have no plans for the school or property.
