Sacred Heart University welcomed its class of 2018 Wednesday with a convocation ceremony that also honored a student who died last week.
Kaitlyn Doorhy, 20, died after she was hit by a car last Friday in Bridgeport. Her roommates and sorority sisters attended the convocation to remember her.
Gov. Dannel Malloy and university officials spoke at the convocation about embracing every day of college and life. A moment of silence was also held in Doorhy's memory.
Doorhy's funeral will be held Friday in her hometown on Long Island.
