Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim met on Monday to discuss ways to prevent hot car deaths.
As the temperature rises globally, there is a higher risk of cars overheating. Those overheating vehicles have led to an average of 40 children dying each year.
“In the time that it takes for you to go to the laundry, then the supermarket, maybe chat for a while with one of your neighbors and come back, your child may be seriously at risk,” said Blumenthal. “Minutes can be fatal, not just for children but also for pets.”
Blumenthal added he has proposed a Hot Cars Act, which would require car manufacturers to install detection technology in new vehicles.
