(10/25/06) DARIEN - Darien residents say they lost some confidence in the common good after five car robberies occurred Wednesday in broad daylight.
All five smash-and-grab thefts took place in the parking lots of two fitness clubs. The robbers smashed at least one window on each car, stealing the valuables inside. Four of the incidents occurred at the Kings Highway Tennis Club on Old Kings Highway North. The fifth car was robbed at Equinox Fitness Club.
The victims say they are shaken up by the thefts. One woman says more than $500 in cash was stolen along with her credit cards, birth certificate and driver's license. Darien police warn residents not to leave valuables in their vehicles. They ask anyone with information regarding these break-ins to call 203-662-5300.
