A Shelton mom has been reunited with the National Guardsman who stopped to help her after a crash on Route 15.
Despite the nasty weather, a happy reunion took place on the Wilbur Cross Parkway Friday as a mom from Shelton found the good Samaritan she was trying to find.
It's a story that got the attention of Gov. Ned Lamont, who tweeted about it last night.
Leigh Deppe, 35, finally got to thank in person Staff Sgt. Ryan Gilbert of the Army National Guard this morning.
Deppe was looking for the good Samaritan who rushed to her rescue one week ago following a rollover accident on the parkway in Orange caused by black ice.
Lamont saw News 12's story and found out the good Samaritan was a Guardsman helping with vaccine distribution in East Hartford, then thanked Gilbert in a tweet last night.
"I was shocked! I don't have Twitter. My fiancé doesn't have Twitter, so she made a quick account just to read it and see what people were saying, so that was very cool, I was not expecting that," Gilbert says.
Deppe says Gilbert saved her from stumbling into oncoming traffic while disoriented due to the accident.
