Norwalk is set to open a new mall in the coming months.
Construction is wrapping up at the new SoNo Collection on 100 North Water St.
As the construction jobs wrap up in this area, retail and management positions are opening up.
Once operational, SoNo Collection is expected to create 2,485 permanent full-time jobs. Salaries range from $37,000 to over $100,000, covering entry-level to management-level positions.
Nordstrom is hiring 280 employees for its store that will open Oct. 11. According to the press release, other stores at SoNo Collection are expected to open the same day.
Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling says the mall will bring more people in to the city and also bring more jobs.
"Obviously, there is going to be a tremendous impact with the taxes. The property will be paying, but more importantly, it will help people who need to have jobs, who might need second jobs," Rilling said.
Norwalk Community College is also offering a certificate in retail customer service and sales to help jump start careers at the SoNo Collection.
Some other stores slated to open are J.Jill, Yard House and Pinstripes bowling alley.
Nordstrom will host a job fair Friday and Saturday at the Courtyard by Marriott on Main Avenue in Norwalk. The retailer will meet with interested applicants and take applications from 10 a.m. to 7p.m. It is in search of sales associates, stylists for a salon, as well as security personnel and building services.

The company has also posted the positions online.
