Friday is Wear Red for Women Day, which is sponsored by the American Heart Association. The goal is to let Americans know that heart disease is the number one killer among women.
Participants in the National Wear Red for Woman Day are being asked to wear their favorite red items, be it clothes, shoes or lipstick to help spread awareness about heart disease.
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is largely preventable. Risk factors include high blood pressure and cholesterol and being overweight. The association recommends regular doctor check-ups.
