Stamford group rails against soccer field upgrade
A Stamford community group met with Mayor Dan Malloy Monday night to express its opposition to the planned upgrading of a neighborhood soccer field.
The city plans to replace the grass on a West Beach Park field with artificial turf, add bleachers, scoreboard and a fence. Members of the Shippan Point Association say they?re most incensed about the fence.
?I didn't buy my townhouse to have my view blocked by a fence, and that is the sentiment of everyone here,? Maureen Boylan says. Her home faces the park.
The park, home to the Stamford Youth Soccer League, will be the source of more traffic and noise residents say. They?re worried that could drive property demand down.
Malloy assured the Shippan Point Association even if the project is approved, there will be plenty of time for the public to voice concerns.
