Stamford Mayor Mike Pavia announced yesterday he will promote interim Fire Chief Antonio Conte to the position permanently.
Conte, a 37-year veteran of the fire department, says he's dreamed of becoming fire chief since he joined the department in the 70s.
The mayor also announced former FDNY firefighter Ted Jankowski will become the city's new public safety director. Jankowski replaces Bobby Valentine, who resigned to manage the Boston Red Sox.
