Stamford nun to meet pope in DC
Sister Carol Ann Nawracaj will be among 2,000 people to see Pope Francis in the White House Rose Garden this Wednesday.
Sister Carol Ann, the executive director at the Villa Maria School for students with learning disabilities, says she is fascinated by Pope Francis.
Like many, she was looking forward to watching his historical visit on television, but got a call from Sen. Richard Blumenthal's office telling her that she would be meeting the Pope in person.
Sen. Blumenthal has known Sister Carol Ann for almost 30 years and asked her to be his special guest for the pope's visit.
"I was beside myself after reading about it and never thinking I would be going in person," Sister Carol Ann expressed.
She has never met a pope before and says this will be a great gift.
Among her many talents, Sister Carol Ann is also inspiring professional football players.
While attending Fairfield University in the 1970s, the New York Giants asked her to watch them as they practiced on campus. At the time she did not know a great deal about football, but shortly started attending their games.
She started doing presentations for the team and became an honorary coach. She has even gone to Super Bowls and has met Eli Manning and Giants coach Tom Coughlin.
Sister Carol Ann is also a professional magician and has tried many of her magic tricks on the Giants.
She will be leaving on Tuesday for her trip to Washington.
