A parking garage at the Stamford Train Station remains closed after state Department of Transportation officials say aging concrete created safety concerns. 

DOT officials say spalling concrete occurs when old concrete becomes broken up or flakes off. They say older concrete from the third floor has broken off and fallen through to the second floor, leaving a hole. 

Inspectors were at the garage Tuesday to evaluate the conditions, but say the garage will remain closed until the tests are complete.

In the meantime, most people will not be able to park in the older garage, blocking off hundreds of parking spots. There will be some parking spots open on the fourth floor, which will be available for monthly parking permit holders only.

Officials say those who don't have permits will have to park at the Building Land Technology lot across the street on Washington Boulevard or in the lot at 28 Bell St. and can be shuttled to and from the train station.
