? Police say they have identified four or five people involved in Tuesday afternoon?s West Side shoot-out and believe some of those suspects are Haitian gang members.
Local residents reacted with horror as the suspects began arguing on Stillwater Avenue. Witnesses say they saw men pull guns and fire at least 10 rounds across a busy street in broad daylight. Two of the alleged suspects were shot.
Resident Charles Bosquet says he?s afraid for his children, and others say they are searching for safer places to live, even if it means moving out of the area.
Gang-related shootings dogged the city earlier this year but appeared to subside as two major gangs, the Crips and the Bloods, forged a shaky truce. The pressure is now on Mayor Dan Malloy, who is fighting to keep Stamford?s reputation as one of the safest cities in America.
Mayor Malloy says city administrators are working on changing an ordinance that would allow the monitoring of street activity with cameras in high crime areas.
