Stamford police nab suspect in child abduction attempt
Stamford police have arrested a man for allegedly trying to lure children into his van Wednesday.
Police say shortly before 8 p.m., Ismet Shala, 42, pulled up to three young children at a Stamford housing complex and told them to get into his van. The children had been playing in front of the Vidal Court complex.
The children say they got scared, ran off and told an adult about the incident. The adult then called police.
When police arrested Shala, they say they found $100,000 in his van. Shala says the money was from a real estate transaction. Police confiscated the money and say they are looking into its source.
Shala's bond has been increased from $150,000 to $500,000. He is due back in court September 28.
