Supporters of Stamford war hero and Medal of Honor winner Homer Lee Wise are trying to raise $150,000 to erect a statue in his honor.
The Sgt. Homer Lee Wise Memorial Committee hopes a statue will reconnect Wise's history with that of Stamford, his adopted hometown, by placing the monument in the city's Homer Lee Wise Park.
The funny thing about the proposed monument is that Tony Pavia, one of the people working to build the statue, says the humble Wise wouldn't be thrilled by the statue.
"I think if Homer Lee Wise was around, he would not approve of this. At the same time, the rest of us deserve to know his story," Pavia says.
