Out of five schools targeted for closure in Stamford, Toquam Magnet Elementary School got a reprieve with news of a move to a new location.

The board of education's redistricting committee made the decision after months of meetings and debates from parents. The committee decided since Toquam is a magnet school, more than half the students are bused in, so it will be easier to transition them to a new location.

Parents are pleased with the decision because part of the board committee's plan is to transfer more than just students and staff, they also want to bring Toquam's highly successful curriculum to the new school.

The redistricting committee will spend the next couple of months working with Toquam parents and faculty to get ideas and feedback about the proposed closing and transfer. The plan will then head to the full board of education for a final vote.
