The Stamford Stars youth softball team has received a generous donation that puts them closer to playing for a World Series in 2023.
The 8-and-under and 10-and-under teams were at Cove Island Park to receive a $10,000 donation from the Mickey Lione Fund.
Both teams went undefeated this year, earning them an invitation to play on the national stage at the Babe Ruth World Series in Jensen Beach, Florida.
But the costs to attend remain a roadblock.
"Going to Florida costs a decent amount of money nowadays and that is not paid for by the league, that is up to the parents to pay,” said head coach Bryan Fox. “So what we've done is try to get in the community, this being one of the ways I guess, and try to ask for community support."
