The governor wants to send a clear message that commercial truck safety violations will not be overlooked.

All this week, commercial trucks on state roads will be under greater scrutiny. Inspectors are out at 14 locations around the state looking for safety violations.

Governor Jodi Rell ordered the statewide crackdown following a recent accident on Avon Mountain. Inspections in that area last week turned up more than 200 violations and pulled 21 trucks from roads.

However, there's criticism from southwestern CT lawmakers who say none of the targeted locations are in this part of the state. They say weeklong efforts are not the answer, and suggest a better solution is keeping the weigh station in Greenwich open all the time to catch the trucks as soon as they enter the state.
