The state Freedom of Information Commission has ruled that state police must release personal documents seized from the home of the Sandy Hook school shooter.
The Hartford Courant tried to obtain the documents for more than a year, but the state blocked those efforts.
The lawyer for the paper says the documents, including a comic book written by Adam Lanza, are public records partly because of the costs to the state for the investigation.
The state argued the items were not public record because they were personal property of the Lanzas seized by warrant.
