(04/24/06) HARTFORD ? State Supreme Court Justice Peter Zarella asked Governor Jodi Rell (R-CT) to withdraw his nomination for the position of Supreme Court justice.
The request follows the disclosure that former Chief Justice William Sullivan delayed the release of a court ruling to help Zarella?s nomination. That ruling states the Judicial Branch has the right to deny public access to some documents that track the history of legal cases. Zarella said he does not believe lawmakers would hold a hearing on his nomination during this session.
Rell says Zarella is ?a man of integrity and outstanding judicial ability.? In addition, she says she?s troubled the news of the delay overshadowed Zarella?s nomination.
