State Supreme Court to hear Russell Peeler death sentence appeal
The state Supreme Court has scheduled a rare special session to hear the appeal of a death row inmate from Bridgeport.
A jury sentenced Russell Peeler to die for ordering the killings of Karen Clarke and her son BJ Brown in 1999.
The boy was a key witness against Peeler in another case.
Peeler's attorneys argue he should not be put to death for the crimes and justices will hear the appeal on June 30.
The court is currently also considering whether the state's repeal of the death penalty in 2012 for future crimes violates the rights of the 11 men on death row.
