Orchard Beach packed as weather warms up
Beachgoers flocked to Orchard Beach Monday on one of the nicest days of the year so far.
Amanda Mandry, a Florida resident, says she was afraid her visit to New York might find snow.
"This feels beautiful," Mandry says. "It's amazing."
Temperatures neared 80. Residents were out tanning, playing sports and even flying drones around the beach.
Many say they've been frustrated with the weather so far this spring.
Temperatures are expected to drop into the mid-50s overnight, but forecasts show they'll climb back into the 70s Tuesday.
The city's official beach season does not begin until Memorial Day, when lifeguards report for duty. Beachgoers are prohibited from using the water until then.
