2 hurt after mattress catches fire in elevator

Two people were injured during a fire at an apartment complex on East 169th Street.

Fire officials say the flames sparked around 7 a.m. inside the Webster Morrisania Houses.

They say both people had injuries that were not considered life-threatening and refused medical attention.

Investigators say a burning mattress in a ground-floor elevator is where the fire originated, but it is unclear what ignited the mattress.
