Police: Suspect charged in teen's shooting death
Police on Friday identified and charged a suspect in connection with Thursday's shooting death of 17-year-old Ackeem Davis.
Police charged 19-year-old Steafon Lewis with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon stemming from the incident. Police still say the shooting appears to have been accidental.
As News 12 has reported, Davis was shot in the chest in his second-floor apartment at the Pelham Parkway Houses just after 5 p.m. Thursday. They say a group of Davis' friends were playing with a gun when it went off. He later died at Jacobi Medical Center.
Police say they are still looking for the weapon used in the shooting. They have been reviewing a Facebook video that was taken moments before the incident.
Davis would have celebrated his 18th birthday on Tuesday.
