Chronically ill woman wants landlord to fix gas leaks
A Bronx woman with a variety of chronic illnesses says she's frustrated with her building's management because she hasn't had a working stove for the last two weeks.
Ida Jenkins, of 2311 Southern Blvd., has diabetes, asthma, spinal issues and cancer. And now she can't cook at home, either.
She says the fire department shut down her gas, and Con Edison workers found three leaks, which she says her building management has yet to fix.
She reported the issue to the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, which sent inspectors to the building last week, she says.
HPD says the building owner must fix the issue and that it is monitoring the situation. Gas service could be restored as early as Thursday.
The building's owner, Grote Street Apartments, did not immediately respond to a News 12 request for comment.
