Fare steals livery driver’s car in the Bronx at Drake Street and Randall Avenue
A man stole a livery cab driver's car while posing as a fare in the Bronx, according to police.
It happened near Hunts Point Avenue and Garrison Avenue yesterday around 1 a.m. where police say the driver picked the man up.
Police say a man posed as a fare, sat inside the taxi and eventually grabbed the driver's cellphone once the cab stopped near Drake Street and Randall Avenue. They say the suspect fought the 53-year-old cab driver, knocked him out of the car, got into the driver's seat and took off.
Authorities say the man abandoned the taxi in front of 742 Whittier St. just a few blocks away and ran off.
He is described as being 5'9" tall, 150 to 170 pounds, with a beard and was last seen wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
