Family, friends honor mom killed shielding children from gunfire
Family and friends gathered Monday to honor the life of a Bronx mother killed while shielding her children from gunfire.
Jessica White died trying to save her children from being shot near the playground of the John Adams Houses on Westchester Avenue. White's fiancé told News 12 that he wanted the kids to see their mom one more time.
"She, in fact, gave her life for her children, nothing more honorable could be said other than that," he said.
News 12 is told White is one of two mothers in her immediate family killed by gun violence.
Many people said prayers and expressed their condolences for the family. Some mourners wore black T-shirts with White's face on them. They described her as a kind person who would do anything to help her kids.
The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at the Greater Universal Baptist Church. Some organizers have already helped with the costs.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
