5 killed in Christmas morning house fire

Stamford police say two grandparents and their three young grandchildren were killed in a house fire early Christmas morning.

Friends say the children?s mother, Madonna Badger, and another person were able to escape.

It happened just before 5 a.m. at a home on Shippan Avenue.

Neighbor Sam Cingari, Jr. says the house was entirely engulfed by flames. The fire was so strong that firefighters were unable to enter the house to save those trapped inside.

There is no word yet on the cause of the fire. Badger and the other survivor remain in the hospital.

Associated Press wire reports contributed to this story.
