DOT seeks to improve road safety in Milford

The Department of Transportation is launching a new traffic study in Milford to find ways to make Bridgeport Avenue safer for pedestrians and drivers.
Police say 17 pedestrians have been hit in the last 10 years, including four fatalities. They say the latest victim was trying to get into her car when she was struck. The driver that hit her took off and still has not been caught.
Residents in the area say the lack of traffic lights is a major problem.
The Department of Transportation says it is working to fix this problem.
Milford police announced new measures Monday to reduce pedestrian accidents. They say they increased their presence in the area with regular patrol units and traffic units, as well as by tracking speeding vehicles around the clock.
