Westport police: 2 men, 1 woman tried to use fake $100 bills
Two men and one woman are facing charges after Westport police say they tried to use fake bills at a gas station in town.Police say Aton Austin, Melissa Menifield and Rennie Fernandez were trying to use counterfeit bills at local businesses. They say the trio was carrying about $1,000 in fake traveler's checks and five counterfeit $100 bills when they were arrested.Officers spotted the suspects at the Cumberland Farms on Post Road East just before 9 p.m. yesterday. Earlier in the night, Fairfield police alerted surrounding towns that people were trying to use counterfeit $100 bills on Post Road.
