The heavy rain this afternoon caused major flooding across southwestern Connecticut.

One flooded spot was at Park and Railroad avenues in Bridgeport.The flooding in Milford was so severe that part of the Post Mall had to be closed. Officials say that water poured into the lower level at about 1 p.m. Management expects the cleanup process to continue into the weekend. The upper floor and movie theater remain open.Areas of Stratford were also hit hard, including just off exit 32 on West Broad Street, which officials say is prone to flooding.

One family had to abandon their car there after the water got too high and they got stuck.
