Police make arrest in Stamford of wanted identity thief
Stamford police say a man wanted in several communities in southwestern Connecticut for stealing identities and credit cards has been arrested and could face deportation.
The manager at Stamford Athletic Club says several members saw someone who looked suspicious and called police.
Officers arrested Ilir Gecaj and initially charged him with trespassing, but they say a fingerprint scan told them a lot more.
Captain Richard Conklin says the 41-year-old suspect is a serial identity and credit card thief who was likely looking for more victims.
Police say Gecaj was born in Yugoslavia and would likely be sent back to Europe if he's found guilty.
