A Bridgeport woman was honored Saturday for her decades of volunteer work.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal presented a commendation to the family of Marta Calderon, who passed away in October at age 63.
Calderon's grandson says she devoted herself to a variety of causes, from social work to the Puerto Rican Parade of Fairfield County.
Blumenthal says Calderon "was a bold voice for working women who inspired countless young people with her tireless activism."
"She was a person with the biggest heart and she gave of herself unstintingly, unceasingly to this community and the people she loved and the people who loved her," he says.
Calderon's family says she will be best remembered for her caring heart that touched every person she met.
