Norwalk fire officials say that two men are recovering after their pickup truck went down a 70-foot embankment and into the Norwalk River.

The incident occurred at about 10 p.m. Sunday off of Perry Avenue. When fire crews arrived, one man had escaped the truck and climbed up the embankment, but the other remained on the roof of the vehicle.

Officials say firefighters then attached a rope to an emergency basket to bring the second man to safety.

Both men went to the emergency room, with the man that was pulled from the truck getting treatment for serious injuries.

The incident also caused delays on the Metro-North Danbury line, which runs by Perry Avenue. Trains were brought to a full stop while the rescue occurred.

Norwalk police say they are now investigating what caused the truck to go into the river.
