A Bridgeport family is remembering their loved ones after a car crash on I-84 in Wawayanda, Orange County, that killed a mother and two children last week.
Jessinia Valentin, 28, was killed in the crash along with her 14-year-old niece, Asyria, and her 9-year-old daughter, Angelina.
Police say Valentin ran out of gas and stalled in the right lane of the highway. A tractor-trailer then crashed into the stopped vehicle, killing the three. Two dogs were killed as well.
Valentin was speaking with a 911 operator when the operator heard the crash, cutting the line.
The family says the two young girls were best friends, and were inseparable.
Victoria Ferrer, who lost her daughter, sister and niece in the crash, says she is just trying to get by one day at a time, but says the support from the community has helped immensely.
On Wednesday, the family is scheduled to hold a benefit at the Avenue in Bridgeport. They say they've already raised several thousand dollars.
