Search suspended Monday for missing boater
Bridgeport police suspended their search Monday evening for a boater who fell into the Long Island Sound off of Bridgeport.
Police say they responded to Seaside Park around 4:30 p.m. Sunday following a report of two men struggling on an inflatable boat.
They say they found the raft with one man on it about an hour later, but there was no sign of the other man.
Crews searched by boat and helicopter, and sent divers into the water Monday.
Police say they are trying to remain positive.
"We're still treating it as a rescue," says Bridgeport Police Capt. Brian Fitzgerald. "We're clinging to the hope that the person was able to grasp to a booey or a rock or a lighthouse, so we are rechecking all of those areas that we didn't check yesterday just to make sure the person isn't there."
Police say the windy weather on Monday made the water choppy and the search difficult.
