Fight breaks out between families following court sentencing
Several people were arrested and two were taken to the hospital after a violent confrontation that erupted between two families following a murder sentence Friday morning.
Efrain Rivera, 34, was sentenced to 10 years for shooting two brothers, one of them fatally, in May 2015.
As News 12 has reported, police said that brothers Miguel and Jose Martinez went to 723 Ogden St. in Bridgeport to confront Rivera about threats he allegedly made against them. An altercation ensued, and Rivera shot the brothers.
Efrain's sister Patricia Rivera says as she and her family left the courthouse after the sentencing, the family of the men her brother shot confronted them.
"As soon as everybody went to the parking lots, to their cars, they came out running with bats, wrenches, attacking people," said Rivera.
Police say they will review surveillance video and figure out exactly what happened. Police say the injuries were not life-threatening.
