PD: ‘Pokemon Go’ players find nude woman breaking church statue

Two young men playing "Pokemon Go" witnessed a naked woman vandalize a church garden in Westport Wednesday, police said.

Monsignor Andy Varga of St. Luke's Church described the incident as saddening.

He said the naked woman tore out lights, flipped benches, threw garbage around a walkway and tipped over a statue of the Virgin Mary, breaking its hand. She also allegedly tampered with the watering system on the side of the building.

Police said they did not immediately charge the woman with a crime because she may have a mental illness.

Churchgoers, church workers and the Westport Police Department helped clean the garden. Members of the congregation said they were praying for the woman's well-being.

Police took her to Norwalk Hospital for a mental evaluation.
