Bridgeport police met with state and local officials Tuesday to discuss how to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.
Rep. John Shaban led the discussion with police.
Chief AJ Perez says illegal guns are being unloaded into Bridgeport every day and that he has made it his top priority to get illegal guns off the streets.
He says one of them was used in one of the worst shootings in the city, when nine people were shot in Trumbull Gardens last year.
Police say the weapons pipeline often starts in the South before they're brought to Connecticut to be bought and sold.
Last year, officials say more than 400 illegal weapons were taken off Bridgeport streets.
Perez says seizing guns has helped contribute to the drop in violent crime in 2016, with shootings down 25 percent.
