Police: Man ambushed cops in Westport
Westport police say two of their officers became involved in a shoot-out after they were ambushed while responding to a domestic dispute.
The incident happened at about 8 p.m. Friday at 236 Wilton Road. Police say the cops were approaching the house along a driveway when the suspect, 42-year-old Louis Bovino, emerged from the bed of a pickup truck and shot at them.
Police say the officers returned fire but no one was injured. The two officers were taken to a local hospital as a precaution. Bovino faces a number of charges including attempted murder and is being held on $3 million bail.
"It certainly is troubling - the initial info is that the suspect attempted to ambush the officers and the officers responded very professionally," says a police official.
Neighbors say they heard Bovino and his spouse arguing before police arrived, which has happened several times in the past.
Police say an investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
