The Alpha and Omega Church of Christ in Bridgeport was heavily damaged by a fire that broke out around 1:30 a.m. Friday, investigators said.
The church is located on the first floor of a multi-story building at the corner of James Street and Harral Avenue.
Fire officials said when they arrived at the scene, the fire was already raging on the first floor. Fire fighters were forced to break down the back door to get inside.
According to Assistant Fire Chief Chris Martin, the interior of the church was heavily damaged, but no one was hurt.
Arson investigators will be looking into the cause of the fire.
Pastor Kenneth Brown, who runs the church with his wife, said they lost hundreds of dollars worth of music equipment in the fire.
