Man gets bullet, not bounty in Bridgeport robbery
A robber got more than he bargained for when a Bridgeport storeowner turned the tables on him Tuesday night.
Mohammed Yasin says he was closing up his bodega at Beechmont Avenue and Broadway at 9 p.m. when an armed man forced him back inside. Yasin managed to grab his own gun and fire twice at the bandit, injuring the man in his side.
Police later arrested the alleged robber, who ended up at a Reservoir Avenue gas station. The suspect, who faces a first-degree robbery charge, is recovering at St. Vincent's Medical Center.
Yasin says he's sad that he shot the man, but glad to be alive. "I really hate to hurt anybody because we're all human beings," he says. "My daughters came crying. I told them I'm OK."
Yasin has owned the store for 26 years and says he's been robbed 12 times. He used his gun in one other incident. Police say Yasin has a permit for the firearm.
