Ex-cop makes brief court appearance in teen sex case
A former Norwalk police officer accused in a teen sex case made a very brief court appearance Friday morning.
Former Norwalk Police Officer Tom Cummings is accused of enticing underage boys into having sex with him while he was an officer. Prosecutors say the incidents occurred while Cummings was working security at Norwalk High School. Cummings pleaded not guilty in February to charges of enticing a minor, second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.
Cummings was in court for less than a minute. His lawyers asked to continue the case until May 23, saying they need further discussions with the prosecutor. It is possible Cummings could be trying to work out a deal with the state attorney?s office. However, Cummings? lawyers and prosecutors wouldn?t comment on the issue.
If convicted, Cummings is facing a possible 115 years in prison.
